Frequently Asked Questions

Q. Are there entry forms available this year?

No but you can download a postal entry form from the website.  Or you can email us and request a postal entry form to be posted to you.

Q. What is the closing date for entries in the Kindercare Kids Commando Challenge?

Entries for the Kindercare Kids Commando Challenge close 29 September 2020. Late entries will be taken after this date and up to 30 mins before event start on event day.  A $5.00 late fee will be added.

Q. What is in the race pack?

The race pack contains your race number, electronic timing chip, safety pins, promotional and giveaway items.

Q. What do I need to bring to collect my race pack?

You must bring your e-confirmation or manual confirmation with you.  If you have misplaced your confirmation please bring some other form of identification such as driver’s license.

Q. How can I pay for my entry fee?

By credit card (Visa or Mastercard only)

Direct credit to Hamilton Half Marathon Account Number 123123 0029181 00. If paying by direct credit you must enter your surname in the reference column and you are still required to post an entry form to us. Post to Hamilton Half Marathon 8 Kinnaird Place Huntington Hamilton 3210.

By cheque made payable to Hamilton Half Marathon and post with entry form to Hamilton Half Marathon 8 Kinnaird Place Huntington Hamilton 3210.

Q. How can I purchase a Half Marathon, 10km or 5km T Shirt and how do I get it?

You can purchase a T Shirt when you enter. You pick your T Shirt up with your race pack and number from Race Registration at Flagstaff Park. Please note that if you purchase a T Shirt for pick up on race day and you do not pick it up you must contact the Event Director and arrange collection.

Q. What course do the children in the Kindercare Kids Commando Challenge run on race day?

The Kindercare  Kids Commando Challenge entire event will be staged in Flagstaff Park.  

Q. Can I take my dog?

No animals of any kind are allowed.

Q. Will medical help be available on the course?

No but if you require medical help see a course Marshall. Course marshalls are located at regular points also and you should notify them if you have any difficulties during the event. If medical help is required they will call 111

Q. Are prams, buggies or strollers allowed in any of the events?

Prams, buggies and strollers are allowed in the 5km event only.

Q. Are there spot prizes for the Half Marathon, 10km and 5km events?

Yes, there are spot prizes.  The major spot prizes will be presented at prize giving.  You must be present to collect any of the spot prizes.  For all other minor spot prizes, a letter will be handed out to randomly selected finishers for you to collect your prize at the spot prize tent.  All spot prizes must be picked up by 2pm otherwise prize will be forfeited.

Q. Can a parent participate with their child in the Kindercare Kids Commando Challenge?

No, the course is very safe for children all run within Flagstaff Park.

Q. How many pace runners will there be and how do we locate them on race day?

There will be 5 pace runners and they will be in distintive coloured T Shirts with the goal times on the back of the T Shirts at the start.  There will also be announcements prior to race start advising of pace runner locations and details.  Pace runners will be available for 1hr 40, 1hr 50, 2hrs, 2hrs 10 and 2hrs 20

Q. In what events can you enter a Social Team?

You can enter a Social Team into the Half Marathon, 10km and 5km.

Q. If I have multiple entries do I have to enter and pay for each person separately?

No, if you are entering more than 1 person you can enter everyone at the same time and pay for all entries in one payment.

Q. Can I pick up another person’s race pack for them?

Yes you can, however their e-confirmation or written authority from them is necessary.

Q. Where do I pick up my race number and race pack from?

You pick your race number and race pack up from the Flagstaff Club, Flagstaff Park Commodore Avenue, Flagstaff in Hamilton. We ask that if you live locally to please pick your number and pack up on Saturday to avoid queues and congestion on Sunday.

Q. Can I still enter on the day?

Yes you can enter on the day at Registration headquarters at Flagstaff Club, Flagstaff Park up until 30mins before your event starts on Sunday 4th October.  A late entry fee of $15.00 for the Half Marathon and 10km and a $10.00 late entry fee for the 5km will apply and will be adhered to.  A late entry fee of $5.00 will be added to the Kindercare Kids Commando Challenge.

Q. Will there be any Half Marathon, 10km and 5km T Shirts available for purchase on race day?

No, to pick a T Shirt up on race day you must pre order, but we can take an order for you and post out.  Go to the T Shirt Desk at Registration to place an order.  A postage charge is added.

Q. Is the Kindercare Kids Commando Challenge timed?

No the Kindercare Kids Commando Challenge event is not timed.

Q. Will starting in waves affect my time?

No, each competitor will be wearing a timing transponder on their shoe which records net and gun times.  Placings are taken on net times.

Q. How many drink stations are on the course for the 10km and 5km events?

For the 10km event there will be 2 drink stations at approximately the 4km mark and 8km mark.  For the 5km event there will be 1 drink station at the 3.5km mark.

Q. How many drink stations are on the course for the Half Marathon?

There will be 1 at 4km mark, 7.5km mark, 12km mark, 16km mark, 15.5km mark, 19km mark.

Q. If the weather is wet, will the prize giving ceremony be cancelled?

Yes it will be cancelled and all winners of merit prizes will be notified by email.  Major spot prize winners will be notified by phone.

Q. What parking is available?

There is parking available on Housing NZ land adjacent to Flagstaff Shops – enter from Endeavour Avenue and follow the instructions from the parking marshalls.  There is also parking available in streets surrounding Flagstaff Park (refer to map on website).  There are several feeder paths into Flagstaff Park which means wherever you do park you will not be far from a feeder entrance.  Under no circumstances are you to park in the Flagstaff shops car park.

Q. Is there food and refreshments available for purchase at the finish?

Yes there will be several selling food and refreshments.

Q. Are there photographers at the event?

Yes, Marathon-photos.com takes a photo of each finisher.  You can view these photos shortly after the event on www.Marathon-photos.com   Once you are at this website click on the Hamilton Half Marathon event and enter your race number to bring up your photo.

Q. How is a Social Team made up & how do we enter a Social Team?

A Social Team is made up of male and female runners or walkers and can be entered into any of the events (Half, 10km or 5km).  All team members don't need to be entered in the same event/distance. Teams must consist of a minimum of 2 in the Half Marathon event, 3 in the 10km event and 4 in the 5km event.   The fastest 2 times of members in the Half, the fastest 3 times of members in the 10km and the fastest 4 times of members in the 5km will be added together.  The winner of this challenge will be the team who has the fastest aggregate time.  To enter your team click on the Team Tab and enter all of your team here. 

Q. I want to walk and run. What should I enter as?

You must enter as a runner.  We ask that competitor’s who enter as a walker, walk the entire event.

Q. Can my entry fee be refunded or transferred?

There are no refunds on entries for non starters or non finishers.  When a participant registers they accept the terms & conditions of entry.  You may transfer your entry to another person or another distance in the 2020 event.  If transferring up from the 10km to Half Marathon or from the 5km to 10km the fee difference must be paid. To transfer your entry please contact the Office.  There are no refunds for changing to a lower fee event.

Q. Are there T Shirts for the Kindercare Kids Commando Challenge?

No there are no T Shirts available for the Kindercare Kids Commando Cahllenge.

Q. Can I purchase a T Shirt for the Half Marathon, 10km or 5km after I have entered?

Yes.  Email admin@hamiltonhalfmarathon.org.nz and we will arrange this for you.

Q. What are net and gun times?

Net time is the actual time taken between crossing the starting and finishing mat as recorded by your transponder.  Gun time is the time taken between the starting gun and the finish mat.

Q. The Half Marathon and 10km events are waved, what does waved mean?

In the Half Marathon and 10km events waved means approximately 200 will be started at one time in minute intervals.  Walkers in each event will be started behind the runners.  This is to avoid congestion at the start line.  In the Kids Commando Challenge children's waves will be by age.

Q. Are there any toilets on the Half Marathon & 10km course?

In the Half Marathon there will be 1 toilet at the 7.5km mark & 2 at the 12km mark..  In the 10km there is 1 toilet at the 4km mark.

Q. Have all the courses been measured and certified as correct?

Yes, all the courses have been measured and certified as correct.

Q. Is the start and finish at the same place?

Yes all events will start and finish at Flagstaff Park.

Q. What time does the prize giving ceremony start and where will it take place?

Prize giving will commence at 12.30pm outside the Flagstaff Club.

Q. Are there any showers at Flagstaff Park?

Yes there are 19 showers available for use. 10 will be for female and 9 for male.

Q. Do we get a Finishers Certificate?

Yes there are finishers certificates for all events including the Kids Commando Challenge and you will be able to download and print your Finishers Certificate from www.Marathon-photos.com by clicking on the link and entering your race number.

Corporate & Social Team Competitions/Opportunities

Fairview Mazda Corporate Team Challenge

Enter a team of 3 (or more) runners or walkers (male or female) for the Half Marathon or 3 (or more) runners or walkers (male or female) for the 10km event.  Teams must include 2 employees of the Company and the Company name must appear in the team name.  The Fairview Mazda Trophies will be awarded to the first placed teams in both these events.

TDO Social Team Challenge

Enter your entire Corporate/Group/Club into this challenge.  Team members (male or female; runner or walkers) can be entered into any of the events (Half, 10km or 5km), all team members don’t need to be entered in the same event/distance. To enter a team into this challenge you must have a minimum of 2 in the 10km and 4 in the 5km. The fastest times of the 2 members in the 10km & 4 members in the 5km will be added together. 

The winner of this challenge will be the team who has the fastest aggregate time. The prize being a trophy plus 500 TDO Dollars from The Dinsdale Office that can be used for either a Christmas function, a dinner, a lunch or a package to be discussed with TDO. Terms and conditions apply.

Team Information

If you require a tax invoice after payment has been made please email admin@hamiltonhalfmarathon.org.nz. If you want us to collate all race packs and race numbers for pick up by one person on event weekend please let us know by 22 September 2019 and we will arrange for this to be done. If you wish to bring your own gazebo, bbq etc please advise us and we will add you into our site plan.  There is no charge for the site.  Closing date for site bookings is Sunday 22 September 2019.

Enter 10 or more together into a combination of any of the Half Marathon, 10km or 5km events & you will receive a 10% discount.  Please note these discounts do not apply to early bird entries or entries in the Kindercare Kids Commando Challenge event.

Race Confirmation

Online entries will receive an e-confirmation. Confirmation for manual entries will be posted out with race instructions a week before event date.

Baby buggies, prams & Strollers

Buggies, prams and strollers will be allowed in the 5km event only.  They will start after the walkers. No dogs, skateboards or rollerblades will be allowed on the course.

Race Numbers & Race Packs

Flagstaff Club will be open from:

Saturday 3rd October at 12 - 4 pm

Sunday 4 October from 7am

For collection of race numbers and race packs. 

Late entries will also be taken.

Late Entry

Late entries will be available online for all events until midnight Wednesday 30-09-20. Thereafter late entries will be taken at Flagstaff Club during Registration hours on Saturday or Sunday up to 30 mins before race time.

Timekeeping & results

Overall finish time will be recorded by Timing Sports. Official timekeeping ends 3hrs 30 after race start. Results will be posted on the website shortly after the event.  

Medals

A medal will be given to every finisher in all events.

Entry Changes

Race changes, race transfers and entry information changes after 30/09/2020 must be completed in person at Flagstaff Club Registration Centre.

Walkers

The 1st-3rd male & female walkers in the Half Marathon event will be recognised in the Merit Prize List. Participants in all events MUST walk the entire event distance. We rely on your honesty - please.

Refund Policy

There are no refunds for non starters or non finishers. When you register you accept the terms and condition of entry. 

Entries can be transferred to another person/or distance in the 2020 event. 

If transferring to another distance e.g. from the 10km to Half Marathon or from the 5km to 10km the fee difference must be paid.  

There are no refunds for changing to a lower fee event.

Prize Giving

Prize giving will take place at 12.30pm at the race finish. You must be present to collect any of the spot prizes and they must be collected by 2pm on event day otherwise prize will be forfeited.  All spot prizes are randomly selected. Major spot prizes will be announced at prize giving. Randomly selected finishers will be handed a letter for minor spot prizes on the finish line. These can be redeemed from the spot prize table in Flagstaff Club. In the event of adverse weather the prize giving will be cancelled and all prizes will be posted out.
